Tip leads to the arrest of a man threatening President Trump online

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. —

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Friday night after he made threats against President Donald Trump on Facebook.

The investigation began when someone in Okeechobee, Florida, reported the threats to the FBI. Detectives tracked the posts to Shannon Depararro Atkins, a 46-year-old man living in West Palm Beach.

Authorities monitored Atkins’ activities before pulling him over in a white 2013 BMW 750Li near his home on Jan. 24. During the traffic stop, Atkins was arrested and found in possession of cocaine.

Atkins admitted to posting the threats during an interview with detectives. He was charged with one count of making written or electronic threats to kill, cause bodily harm or commit an act of terrorism, a second-degree felony. He also faces a drug possession charge. The U.S. Secret Service has been notified and will decide if more charges will be added.

He is currently being held at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Main Detention Center.
