On February 14th, 2018, 17 students and staff were killed, and 17 others were critically injured at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The New York Times reported that poor communication, slow response time, and numerous other failures on behalf of law enforcement officers contributed to the devastating death toll.
The time that it takes for emergency personnel to get to the scene of an emergency can mean the difference between life and death. Alyssa’s Law proposes a set of regulations that significantly decrease the amount of time that it takes for law enforcement, EMS teams, and the fire department to respond to life-threatening emergencies on school property.
Alyssa’s Law has been successfully passed and implemented in seven states. It is currently under review for approval in several additional states.
